Story Excerpt

“Riley, I can explain. Just not here, please,” Madison pleaded as she looked around the room full of her family and friends.

Riley looked to his twin brother, Stormy, nodded, and sighed. “Okay, Madison, but after this party is over, we will talk,” he said before turning on his heel to walk over to the bar to where Tye was standing serving people drinks.

Madison released her breath that she had been holding in ever since she spotted her twin standing in her family’s bar. Shit was going to hit the fan tonight and Madison wasn’t looking forward to the conversation she was going to have in the future with Trent’s fathers.

Over four years ago, Madison had attended one of Tye’s away games, which she had done numerous times before. Tye didn’t like to be alone on these long trips. He had told her on several occasions that he felt homesick and wanted one of his sister’s or his father to join him when he traveled on his away games.

On one particular away game, Madison couldn’t sleep, so she decided to go down to the bar and have a nightcap. After receiving her vodka cranberry, she decided to take her drink and sit in a booth in the back of the bar, where she could enjoy her drink in peace. That’s when she noticed the two handsome men, Riley and Stormy Masters, walk into the bar. She knew who they were since they were her brother’s teammates, but she had never formally been introduced to them.

Every woman in the bar took notice of them, including their loyal fans. After they signed a few autographs, they took their drinks from the bar and turned around, looking for a place to sit. That’s when they both locked eyes on her. Madison felt her skin heat as her clit throbbed by the way their hot molten eyes were boring into hers. They smiled at her and walked toward the table she was seated at in the back and smiled at her as they approached her. These guys were the tallest men she had ever seen. Madison was a tall five-foot-nine woman but even she had to stretch her neck to look at them as they spoke to her.

“Hi,” the one she recognized as Stormy said.

Madison nodded and smiled. “Hello.”

Riley, Stormy’s identical twin asked, “Do you mind if we join you for a drink?”

She waved her arm at the chairs around her, but they both decided to sit in the booth on either side of her.

Riley was the first to address her. “Do I know you from somewhere?”

“Tye Duffey is my little brother.”

“Ahh…I thought I recognized you from somewhere.” Stormy then turned to face her and moved in a little closer. “So where is little brother now? Did you put him to bed with his pacifier?”

Madison snickered. She noticed that he had slid closer so that she could smell the scent of the fresh soap he must have just used. She noticed his black hair was still a little wet. They must have just showered and come down. Stormy had short spiky hair like Riley’s except Stormy’s hair was only spiky in the very front as to where Riley’s was spiky all on the top of his head.

“No, he was tired and wanted to crash early.”

Riley nodded. “Stormy practically dragged me out of bed too. Today’s game wore me out.” He leaned in closer and whispered, “But I sure am glad he talked me into coming down here for a drink. This gives us a chance to get to know you better, Madison.”

Long story short, after a few hours and way too many vodka cranberries Madison ended up going up to their room and having sex with them. The next morning when she woke up in the middle of them, naked, she grabbed her clothes and ran like a scared little rabbit. She knew it was a mistake having sex with them. But it was the best sex she had ever had. They were both so attentive and relentless in bed. She barely had a chance to breathe when they wanted to have sex again. They fucked like bunnies until the sun came up. Riley and Stormy probably had a girl in every town the visited. Madison didn’t want to be one of their groupies.

After that one special encounter with the twins, somehow they got her cell number, most likely from Tye, and tried to contact her by phone messages and even text. By then her period was late and she knew she was going to have their baby. Madison was scared and didn’t know what to do. The twins were just starting out in their careers. For God’s sake, they were only twenty-three to her twenty-eight years. She knew that they wouldn’t be ready to have a baby. She couldn’t bear to abort her baby if they asked her to. After a while the phone calls and text stopped. And Madison’s world of motherhood was about to begin without a father for Trent.

Lana’s voice brought her out of her trance, bringing her back to reality.

“Are you okay?” she asked in a concerned voice as she dragged her back to the kitchen for more privacy.

Madison closed her eyes and looked around to make sure that no one was listening. That’s when Trent came from the back storage room holding a stack of plates and the basket of French bread.

“Mommy, are you okay? You look sick,” the sweet little angel said to her.

Lana was the one to answer him. “Mommy is fine. She just needed to get something back here in the kitchen she forgot.” Lana shushed him from the kitchen before turning to face her once more.

With Lana’s hands on her hips she said, “Spill, Madison. I am not blind. I know Riley and Stormy are Trent’s father. Holy crap, how couldn’t I have seen the resemblance before today? I have seen them play with Tye all those years. They look just like him.”

Wednesday Words with Caitlyn O’Leary

May 14, 2014 by Lynne St. James 5 Comments

protecting olivia, caitlyn o'leary, o'leary, erotic romance, erotic, love story, siren publishing, fate harbor series, contemporary romancePlease join me in welcoming Caitlyn O’Leary to this week’s Wednesday Words.  Her latest book, Protecting Olivia – Book 2 in the Fate Harbor Series, releases on May 15th and  focuses on a topic that is near and dear to Caitlyn.  Today she is sharing a little bit of why  it’s so important to her.  Without further adieu, here’s Caitlyn…

Thanks Lynne for hosting me on your blog, and allowing me a moment to talk about why this book means so much to me. It is the second book I have written. It follows Trusting Chance in the Fate Harbor Series, and I like to think I’m still delivering the same kind of fun, strong story to my readers. As a matter of fact, they get hunky firemen, and a mystery! I’m also introducing two ex-Special Forces men who also come to help protect Olivia because somebody is really out to get her.

The reason this book really tugs at my personal heartstrings is that it mentions one topic that that is especially relevant to me. That is the need for homeless shelters. My mom was mentally ill, and she had five children who desperately loved her and would have taken her in at any time, but because of her illness we couldn’t always find her. Knowing that there is a shelter system in America where people who are in need can find refuge is important to me. When I wrote this story for Olivia, I hadn’t even realized that connection between my mom and Olivia’s passion. It was re-reading the story during the editing process that it clicked for me why the story resonated. All of my characters seem to write their own stories and I have very little say on what they do, so I was happy to see that Olivia was doing something about a cause that would have helped my mom.

Okay, with all that being said, the people that I have had read the book, still said that the mystery and action had them turning pages until the very end. And that the book was extremely steamy. So go read the excerpts, before thinking that Olivia spent her entire time taking care of the homeless, I assure you she spent plenty of time “playing” with her oh-so-hot firemen!

Wednesday Words with Caitlyn O’Leary

April 16, 2014 by Lynne St. James 9 Comments

trusting chance, caitlyn o'leary, erotic romance, romance, menage, happily ever after, siren publishingPlease join me in welcoming brand new erotic author Caitlyn O’Leary to Wednesday Words.  Her first book, Trusting Chance, released yesterday on Siren-Bookstrand and from what I’ve seen it’s hot, hot, hot.  I was lucky enough to drag Caitlyn away from her busy release week schedule for an interview so we can all get to know her better.  Ohhh and now you all are really lucky, because Caitlyn is giving away a $25.00 Amazon Gift Card for one person who gets the following question correct.  The winner will be posted on Thursday after we give everyone a chance to answer.  Now for the question:  What is the name of Josie’s Bakery?

The Interview:

Lynne St. James:  Can you tell us a little about your background and how you started writing?

Caitlyn O’Leary:  I’m the oldest of five children, so it was a lively household, reading was a way to block out the noise.  As I grew up, I would often write stories, just to entertain myself and my younger siblings.  I often wrote their book reports for them!  My brothers were only one year apart in age.  I wrote a report for the oldest his senior year, he turned it in and got a B+, the next year John turned it in to the same teacher and got an A-, the year after that the youngest turned it in to the same teacher and got an A.  The teacher liked it better each time he read it!

  ~~~~~
Lynne:  How did you get started writing ménage stories?
Caitlyn:  I started reading Sophie Oak a couple of years ago and became a huge fan of her Bliss and Siren in the City series.  I found that I liked that I could tell even more characters’ perspectives in ménage stories.  I also liked that you would have to deal with the fact that there were more hurdles because this was not a traditional lifestyle choice.  As a result, I felt these characters had to be really special and brave.
  ~~~~~

Lynne:  Your first book, Trusting Chance, released yesterday.  You must be so excited!  Can you tell us a bit about your main characters and their motivation?

Caitlyn:  I couldn’t believe that I wrote a book and somebody wanted to publish it!  It was a dream come true.  But to tell you the truth, it wasn’t really my book, it just came out of my fingers.  It is the characters’ book.  They just told their story.  All of my books take place in a town similar to the one I grew up in.  It’s in the Pacific Northwest, called Fate Harbor.  My hero is Chance Reynolds and he is the rascal manipulator.  He remembered Josie Decker from when he and she were young children in foster care together, and when he was reacquainted with her, he fell in love.  His best friend, Sam Booth, is suffering from PSTD from his time serving in Afghanistan.  He is slowly getting his life together, but Chance knows he needs a kick in the ass, and he knows that Josie is a woman who could really help to heal Sam.  What’s more, Chance knows that Josie’s life was not easy after they parted as children, and that he and Sam can bring love and laughter to her life, as well.

  ~~~~~
Lynne:  How many books will you have your series?  Can you tell us a bit about the next book coming out?
Caitlyn:  I think I’m going to write at least eight books this year.  That’s how many triads are clamoring in my head.  I’ve already written three, and am a quarter of the way through my fourth.  The second book is called Protecting Olivia which is due out in May.  Olivia was in foster care with Sam and Chance.  She is the head of a large charity, and she’s in trouble.  She was badly beaten in Boston and has come to Fate Harbor to recuperate at the home of her foster brothers.  There she meets two hunky Fate Harbor firemen, who will risk their lives to keep her safe from the trouble that continues to follow her.
 ~~~~~

Lynne:  If you could meet one author, who would it be and why?

Caitlyn:  Pat Conroy.  He wrote Prince of Tides, The Great Santini and The River is Wide.  He has such a beautiful way with prose, and each book makes me laugh and cry.  His characters just tear you to pieces.  You want to go into the books and beat them or save them or love them.  I want to crawl into Pat’s head and learn how to write like he does.

  ~~~~~
Lynne:  Do you write your books in order or hop around?
Caitlyn:  I write my books in order.  Each book layers on top of the next, and the characters tell me when it is time for their story to be told.
  ~~~~~

Lynne:  What do you find hardest about writing?  Easiest?

Caitlyn:  The hardest thing about writing is to find the time to do it.  I have a full time job, and a husband who actually wants attention (go figure).  The easiest thing about writing are the scenes between the main characters, they always move me.  Again, they write themselves, but I end up typing really fast, because I’m so fascinated by where they are headed, and it’s usually going to be hot and steamy.

  ~~~~~
Lynne:  Do you have a specific writing “ritual?”
Caitlyn:  Headphones.  I pick out a song that is going to play for each book, I repeat it over and over again.  For Trusting Chance it was Luke Bryan’s “Drink a Beer”.  You’ll see a scene in the book that reflects that.
Lynne:  I’ll be looking for it!
  ~~~~~

Lynne:  What one word would you use to describe yourself to a complete stranger?  Why that word?

Caitlyn:    I’m a synergist.  I approach my work looking for synergies in interests, work styles, goals, and needs.  It’s a rewarding way to work.  I keep meeting other writers and readers who are surprisingly supportive and helpful in sharing their resources to help me launch my books. I make every effort to return that kind of support to them, as well, because I’m all about the “girl power” that makes our beloved Happily Ever Afters such a popular success!

Lynne:  I agree, most of the romance authors are incredibly supportive of each other and our fans are out of this world.  Just wait until you get your first reader fan mail.  There is nothing like it.

 ~~~~~
Lynne:  If you were shipwrecked on a desert island and only could bring one book, which one would it be?
Caitlyn:  The book that I’m currently re-reading, is Siren in Waiting by Sophie Oak, I love Trev, Bethany and Bo.
  ~~~~~

Lynne:  What is your favorite movie?

Caitlyn:  It has to be “Harold and Maude,” the story of an unconventional romance between a provocative 80 year old woman and a troubled young man in his twenties, made in 1971.  I love many of Maude’s lines from this film, especially this one, which she addressed to Harold:

“Harold, everyone has the right to make an ass out of themselves. You just can’t let the world judge you too much.”

Spoken like a true ménage fan, wouldn’t you agree?

Lynne:  That’s for sure.

  ~~~~~
Lynne:  What is your favorite curse word?
Caitlyn:  Fuck, and here’s why because of it’s various uses:
  •      Noun: “Like fuck you will!”
    •     Also, since this is contended: Hard as fuck or Yes, thank you, I’d love a fuck.
  •       Pronoun: “I hit fuck-face over there with a baseball bat.” (both cheating and plagiarizing @Joe but you said nothing about hyphenated forms)
  •      Adjective: “He’s fucked!”
  •      Verb: “Fucked if I’ll give you an example of the most common form!”
  •     Adverb: “It was fuck hard”, yes, apparently it is used by some.
  •    Conjunction: “I went swimming, fuck the cold.” (as in, I went swimming despite the cold.)
  •    Preposition: don’t think it’s possible.
  •    Interjection: “Fuck! I was sure I could find a preposition!”
Lynne:  I love it!  I don’t think anyone has been quite that specific, but I totally agree.
 ~~~~~

Lynne:  What is one of your pet peeves?

Caitlyn:  People who feel entitled for no reason whatsoever.

 ~~~~~
Lynne:  Is there anything else you’d like to share with us today?
Caitlyn:  How blessed I feel for getting a chance to do what I love, and for being able to talk to someone as fun as you, Lynne!
Lynne:  I’m so happy you visited with us today.  You’re so much fun and I can’t wait to read Trusting Chance.   Of course I’ll have to turn the A/C on high I’m sure!
The Blurb:
Josie Decker and Chance Reynolds knew each other years ago when they were in the same foster home, before Josie’s birth mother reclaimed her. Now, Chance and his best friend, Sam Booth an Afghan war veteran are living in Fate Harbor, Washington, when Josie reestablishes ties with her foster parents and opens a bakery in the quaint town.
Chance realizes that growing up with her birth mother has left Josie with physical and emotional scars and a deep belief that she is unworthy of love. Fate Harbor is very accepting of triad alliances, and Chance believes that the relationship that will ultimately heal Josie is one that includes both he and Sam. Sam’s recent trauma, fighting for his country, has left him beyond hurt.
Chance has despaired of saving the brother of his heart, but finding Josie again has given him hope, and a plan. Can the three of them make the perfect future together?
Embracing Her Desires, anamchara, lynne st. james, jk publishing, paranormal romance, erotic romance, paranormal, shifters, werewolves, magic, fae, love, happily ever afterAn Excerpt:
“Where is this freakin’ town?” Hope sighed, and double checked the GPS in her rental car for at least the fifteenth time in the last twenty minutes.  “Even the GPS doesn’t know where we are.”  She’d looked at Google Maps before picking up the rental and it said the drive from her apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan to Anamchara, Virginia should take about five and a half hours.  Instead she’d been driving for almost seven, the last half hour of it in a circle, all to claim, in person no less, a piece of property that three days ago she didn’t even know existed.
She swore if the damn GPS said recalculating one more time she’d toss it out the window and gleefully run it over on her next pass.  She was sure she’d been in this exact spot at least three times already.  Pinks, purples, and splashes of orange painted the sky—the colors a warning that night approached.  If she couldn’t find this turn soon she’d have to find a place to stay for the night.  Secluded, dark, and alone were not words Hope wanted in the same sentence—too much like a horror movie waiting to happen.
Frustrated, she gripped the steering wheel so tightly her hands cramped.  The GPS indicated she should be turning left now, but all she could see were trees, trees, and more trees.  “I’m in the middle of freakin’ nowhere.  I should’ve had my head examined instead of making this drive by myself.”
Reaching across the seat for her phone to call her BFF, Nicole, she glanced up in time to see a wolf standing in her path.  Slamming on the brakes, the car screeched to a stop inches from the huge animal.  It stood there—stock still—seemingly not afraid.  Staring into large silvery gray eyes, it looked like it could be reading her thoughts.  Then as suddenly as it appeared, it dipped its gray and black furred head and darted off into the trees.
“Holy crap.”  Hope leaned back against the headrest and closed her eyes.  “A wolf?  Oh my God.  I was face-to-face with a wolf.  Shit.  Maybe I did need extra rental car coverage for unexpected occurrences?”  Drawing in a deep breath and trying to calm her shattered nerves, she counted to ten.  Eventually her heart stopped trying to escape from her chest and she opened her eyes looking around to see if the wolf had returned.  “Why was it in the middle of the road in the first place?  Do they even have wolves in Virginia?”  She giggled, of course they did.  I almost hit one, didn’t I?  Sighing, she shook her head and peered through the windshield searching for any other “unexpected occurrences.”  That’s when she noticed it.
In front of her and slightly off to the left side was the turn.  “Seriously?  I swear that road wasn’t there five minutes ago.”  Partially hidden by the overgrown trees, the sign she’d spent the last half hour trying to find stood next to the road.  Why didn’t I see it before?  Shaking her head, she rolled down the window to get a better look at it in the fading light.  I know it wasn’t here before.  Am I being punked or something?
She read aloud, “Welcome to Anamchara where true love comes to all who seek it.”
