I’d like to welcome debut author, Lei Carol. Her first book was released yesterday and is a MM romance from JK Publishing. She has joined me for an interview but first here’s the blurb and cover for Doctor Troubles x2.
A decision made ten years ago after a phone call from his younger brother has followed Thomas Wolfenson every turn he makes. His wolf refuses to allow him to shift, and because of that fated decision so long ago, Thomas’s mate refuses to even acknowledge that he is alive.
Since then he took the position of pack doctor for another pack, but he is still plagued by the choices he made so long ago. Then, mysterious calls start coming in, until one day that call turns frantic as he is told his mate is in grave danger. Thomas leaves immediately for Oregon where his family pack is, hoping he will arrive in time to save his mate.
But what will happen once he arrives? Is he strong enough to right the wrongs made so long ago? And exactly who is this caller, and what is he to Thomas’s mate?
Lynne: Can you tell us a little about your background and how you started writing?
Lei: I started reading romance novels when I was 13 and haven’t been able to put them down since, slowly going from plain vanilla MF to everything else once I got a bit older and understood it all better… LOL… I started trying to write when I was in high school but would lose my muse fairly quickly…. Until this last winter when a really good friend told me I could do it. So I did.
Lynne: Your latest book, Doctor Troubles X2, released on August 26th. Can you tell us about your main characters and how you got the idea for this book/series?
Lei: When I started writing this book I was halfway through what is now book 2 and one day Thomas pulled up a chair and started talking to me… It was funny watching the dirty looks his brother, Elliot who is in book 2 kept giving Thomas. At that point Elliot and his mate’s story got put on hold while I busted out Thomas and his troubles. (this all happened in a deep dark corner of my mind… Kind of like one of those scary bars you see in movies… That’s my brain… you don’t wanna go in there but yet something pulls you in anyway…)
Have you ever done something that you thought at the time was for the best for someone else only to find out later it was the worst thing you could do but no matter how much you wanted to change the path you had taken, you couldn’t fix it? Thomas ended up learning the hard way about that as his wolf quit talking and responding to him, his mate ended up refusing him and quit talking to him and then his mate even killed a human and threatened another.
Lynne: How did you get the idea for this series? How many books do you think will be part of the series?
Lei: Honestly, the idea just came to me one day as I drove to work and I had to start writing it out right then and there. As to how many books, I honestly don’t have any idea… I am currently working on the 3rd book and have the 4th book already planned out and the 5th book is formulating in the back of my mind as of right now.
Lynne: If you could meet any author, who would it be and why?
Lei: umm…. That’s such a hard question to ask… because there are so many different ones… okay okay… I can narrow it down to… Sean Michael. Why? I love his work… He has like well over 50 different books I think and I am slowly working my way through reading all of them. I have found myself every month going back and re-reading not just one of his books but most of them. I would love to be able to sit down with him and pick his brain about where he gets his idea’s and everything like that.
Lynne: Do you have plot your books and write in story order, or do you hop around and sort of wing it?
Lei: Once I start writing a story I start to get a general idea as to where it’s going so then I can map out my outline/key points and go from there. Some stories or idea’s I have found are louder than others and sometimes they all like to bounce back and forth.
Lynne: What do you find hardest about writing? Easiest? What surprised you most about writing your first book?
Lei: I have found that the hardest part is staying in one story long enough to make a dent in it. The easiest part is usually the first chapter or two. The surprising part about my first book was actually supposed to be my second book but Thomas started screaming at me… LOL…
Lynne: Do you have a specific writing “ritual?” A quiet room, music, a specific food or drink? Is there a certain time of day you are more prolific?
Lei: Most of the time I just sit in the dining room with head phones on and music blaring to keep the distractions at bay, because I am one of those people who… oh look glitter… shiny, sparkly… Oh huh, what? Oh right… where was I? Time of day doesn’t matter to me as long as I am awake enough to focus.
Lynne: What one word would you use to describe yourself to a complete stranger? Why?
Lei: Bubbly. Once I warm up around people I become very bubbly and bouncy, sometimes… too much so.
Lynne: Do you have any pet peeves? What is your biggest one?
Lei: Who doesn’t have pet peeves? My biggest one when it comes to writing is if I am in the middle of writing a really good steamy scene and someone starts trying to interrupt me, I then want to growl.
Lynne: If you were going to be left on a deserted island for an indefinite period of time and could only bring one suitcase, what would you pack?
Lei: I would have to take my tablet as long as all my favorite books were downloaded to it so I can read them over and over again. I would also take lots and lots of sun screen cause I burn real easy.
Lynne: What is your favorite curse word?
Lynne: What is your least favorite curse word?
Lei: honestly I don’t really have a least favorite word… lol unless it’s coming out of my daughters mouth, then I don’t like it…. LOL
Lynne: What is your guilty pleasure?
Lynne: What is your favorite season? Why?
Lei: Fall… I love watching all the different colors and the crisp weather.
Lynne: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us today?
Lei: I am big believer in Love is Love, no matter what. If anyone ever wants to talk please feel free to message me anytime.
